Revisiting Yin and Yang
Last week in class we were learning about the Principles of Design. The assignment that followed was based on creating a balanced composition using complementary colours. Now what better way to represent balance than using the popular Yin and Yang diagram? Yin and yang are complementary opposites within a greater whole. It was a perfect assignment!
The medium we used was collage on paper. Now at first sight collage may seem like an easy task, but do not be fooled. The paper pieces have the same hue but different shades and sizes. And it is while pasting these haphazard yet similar pieces together that you realize it isn’t simple to get the balance right.
I used pinkish purple and yellowish green as complementary colours.
While greens, blues, reds and oranges were abundantly available for some reason the pinkish purple I had chosen had very less appearance in the magazines we all got to class; but I eventually completed it :)
I think I will try more collages. They’re fun and challenging. More so, take collages to the next level – decoupage!
